Q: What is a Senior Military College?

A: A Senior Military College (SMC) is one which offers military Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) programs  on campus and are specifically recognized under 10 USC 2111a(f). Currently, there are six SMCs, and North Georgia College and State University is one of the six.  It offers baccalaureate degrees and military science courses including military training to Cadets.

Q:  Senior Military College란 어떤 대학교입니까?

A: 캠퍼스에서 학군단 프로그램(ROTC)을 제공하며 미국법률 10USC 211A(F)에 따라 특별 지정된 4년제 군사대학교 혹은 고위 군사대학교를  Senior military college 라고 합니다. 현재 미국에 4년제 군사대학교로 지정된 곳이 여섯 군데가  있으며 그 중 한 곳이North Georgia College and State University입니다.  생도생들에게 학사학위 교육과정을 부여함과 동시에 군사훈련을 포함한 군사학 과목도 교과과정에 포함되어 있습니다.

Q: What are differences between the ROTC s in the SMCs and those in other colleges?

A: Unlike other colleges’ ROTC programs, Cadets at the SMCs are authorized to take the ROTC program all four years, but taking a commission upon graduation remains optional.  In addition, Cadets always have to wear military uniforms and reside in a Cadet residence hall.  Being an officer right after graduation doesn’t necessarily mean s/he is on active duty.  One of the crucial benefits at the SMCS is that all Cadets at the Senior Military Colleges are guaranteed active duty commissions when they graduate.

Q: 일반 대학교 학군단 (ROTC)과 4년제 군사대학교 학군단(ROTC) 의 차이점은 무엇입니까?

A:일반 대학교의 학군단 프로그램과 달리4년제 군사대학교 생도생들은 의무적으로 4년동안 학군단 생활을 해야합니다. 그러나  졸업 후 장교 임관은 본인의 선택에 따릅니다.  또한4년제 군사대학교 생도생들은 항시 군복을 착용해야하며 생도 기숙사 생활을 해야합니다.  장교로 임관했다고 해서 졸업 직후 바로 장교로서 근무를 할 수 있는 것은 아닙니다. 하지만 4년제 군사대학교  생도생들은  졸업과 동시에  장교로 임관한 후 바로 장교로 근무수행을 할 수 있습니다.

Q:  What are the Cadet Admission Requirements?

A: Be at least 16 years old on or before the registration date. Graduate from an accredited high school or a high school that is approved by the University. Minimum SAT requirements for regular admission are Math 440 and Critical Reading 480 / Minimum ACT requirements for regular admission are Math 18 and English 20.  Present credit for the following 16 (17 for students graduating in or after 2012) CPC (College-Preparatory Curriculum) units:

Q: 사관생도로 입학하기 위한 자격조건은 무엇입니까?

A:

• 입학신청 날짜 혹은 그 이전에 최소 만 16세여야합니다.
• 공인된 고등학교 졸업자이거나 또는 대학교에서 인정한 그에 준하는 자격을 갖춘자이어야합니다.

Q: How much does it cost to attend North Georgia as a Cadet?

A:  We are by far the least expensive senior military college in the country.  For the Academic Year 2010-2011, the total cost for the Fall Semester was $9,700.  This included tuition, meals, books, uniform, fees, room, deposits and things that Cadets need to have for their room in the Cadet residence halls.  The second semester and every subsequent semester costs about $7,500 for room, meals, books, tuition and fees.

Q: 생도로 입학할 경우 드는 비용은 얼마입니까?

A: 저희 학교는 미 전역 4년제 군사대학교 중 학비가 가장 싼 곳입니다. 2010년도 신입 생도생의 첫 가을 학기 비용은  등록금, 식비, 교재비, 군복비, 등록금,  기타비용, 기숙사비, 기숙사 비치 품목 비용 및 기숙사 계약금 모두를 포함해서 9700불이었습니다.  그 다음 학기 부터는 매 학기 드는 비용이 기숙사비, 식비, 등록금 교재비, 기타 비용을 포함해서 7500불입니다.

Q: What kind of benefits can Cadets have?  

A:  If you are a Georgia State resident you receive a grant of up to $1,500 per year just for participating in the Corps of Cadets.  At the beginning of your sophomore year, If you sign an agreement to commission as an Army lieutenant after you graduate (when you become sophomore), the grant doubles to up to $3,000 per year. If you are HOPE eligible, you receive an additional $5,500 that can be subtracted from your total cost to attend. You also receive $330 from the federal government to help offset the costs of uniforms each year. These benefits alone reduce the cost of your first year in college from $17,000 to $10,000!  For out-of-State Residents, you pay in-state tuition for participating in the Corps of Cadets! The savings to you is approximately $12,000 per year.

Q: 생도생이  받을 수 있는 혜택은 무엇입니까?

A: 조지아 주 학생은 학군단 가입만으로도  매년 1500불의 지원금을 받습니다. 그리고  2학년으로 올라가서 장교 임관 계약서에 사인하게되면 이삼사학년동안  매년 3000불까지 지원금을 받게 됩니다.  또한 조지아의 호프 장학금을 받을 자격을 갖춘 학생들은 호프 장학금을 통해서 5500불의 혜택도 받을 수 있습니다.  뿐만 아니라 품위 유지비로 매년 연방정부로부터 330불의 지원금을  제공받게 됩니다.  이 혜택만으로도  최소 $10,000에서 최대 $17,000까지 첫 해  학자금 비용을 줄일 수 있습니다.   타주에서 온 학생들의 경우는 조지아 거주자 등록금 혜택을 받을 수 있습니다. 이럴 경우는 매년 12000불을 절약하게 됩니다.

Q:  What scholarships, grants and financial aid is available to help pay the cost to attend North Georgia as a Cadet?

 A:  For US citizens who want to commission as lieutenants in the Army, the Army ROTC scholarship is available.  This is a merit-based scholarship that pays for room and meals, books and a monthly stipend.  For Georgia residents, there is the HOPE scholarship that pays all tuition and some fees.   For more information, click www.northgeorgia.edu/cadetscholarships and

Q:  What kind of benefits do Cadets receive when they sign a contract to commission as a lieutenant after graduation?  

A:  At the beginning of your sophomore year, if you want to become an Army officer and meet the eligibility requirements, then you can contract with ROTC.  Regardless of which state you are from, you receive contract pay of $350 per month sophomore year, $450 per month junior year, and $500 per month senior year!

Q: 장교 임관  계약서에 사인을 할 경우 주어지는 혜택은 무엇입니까? 

A:  2학년 초기에  장교가 되기를 원하고 그에 준하는 자격 조건을 갖춘 경우 장교 계약서에 사인을 할 수 있습니다.  계약이후에는  (어느 주 출신에 상관없이) 재학중에 지급되는 급여가 있습니다.  2학년은  매달 350불, 3학년은450불,  그리고 4학년은 500불의 급여를 받게됩니다. 

Q:  Are Cadets obligated to sign a contract to be a commissioned officer?

A:  Once you are in the Corps of Cadets, you must stay in the Corps until you have 90 credit hours completed.  If you want to leave the Corps prior to 90 hours, you must leave the university and stay away for one year before you can re-enroll.

Q: 생도생들은 반드시 장교로 임관하겠다는 계약서에 사인을 해야합니까? 

A: 일단 생도생으로 입학을 하게되면  90학점을 이수할 때까지 의무적으로 학군단에 소속되어야합니다. 만약 90학점 이수 전에  학군단을 그만두려면  1년 휴학을 해야하며 그 후에 민간학생으로 재입학할 수 있습니다.

Q: Do you have any other programs besides the Army ROTC program?

A:  We are the only university in the country with a drilling Guard unit on our campus.  You can also serve as a Reserve solider or a Georgia Army National guardsoldier while being a Cadet in the Corps of Cadets.  If you serve in the Army Reserve or the Georgia Army National Guard, you can pay most of your college bills with the pay and benefits you receive from the Army, Veteran’s Administration, the State of Georgia, and Army ROTC.

Q: 예비 장교를  육성하는 학군단 외에 또 다른 학군단 프로그램이 있습니까? 

A: 저희 학교는 미국 대학교 중에서 유일하게 방위군 훈련장이 있는 캠퍼스입니다. 학군단에 소속되어 있으면서 동시에 육군 예비군이나 조지아 방위군으로 근무할 경우 급여와  미육군, 재향군인청, 조지아정부 그리고 육군 학군단을 통해서 받는 혜택으로  대학자금의 상당부분을 충당할 수 있습니다. 

Q: Are there any incentive pay when a Cadet takes Korean courses?

 A: Cadets who are contracted to commission will receive $250 per semester hour in Critical Language Incentive Pay (CLIP) for a maximum of $3,000 per year.  This is in addition to the monthly stipend.

Q: 생도생이 한국어 수업을 들을 시 받는 장려금이 있습니까?
A: 장교 임관 계약을 한 생도생은  중요언어 교육 장려금으로  매 학기  시간당 $250불로 연간 최대 3000불을 받을 수 있습니다.  이것은 매달  급여에 추가로 지급됩니다.
