Requesting to Host an International Scholar

Bringing a J-1 Visiting International Scholar to Campus

Initial meeting with the Director of the Center for Global Engagement must occur no later than 100 days before the scholar’s proposed arrival date.

1. Identify Scholar

2. Coordinate with the sponsoring academic unit in which the scholar will be working.

3. Set up an initial meeting with the Director of the Center for Global Engagement. Must occur no later than 100 days before proposed scholar arrival.

4. Request housing through the Vice President of Academic Affairs for approval by the VPAA and Deans Council. For more information on housing, please click here.  Housing must be requested no later than 100 days before proposed scholar arrival.

5. Submit request for the issuance of a DS-2019 document to the Center for Global Engagement. For more information, please click here. Requests for a DS-2019 immigration document must occur no later than 75 days before proposed scholar arrival.

6. Secure insurance for proposed scholar. For more information on insurance, please click here.  Insurance must be secured no later than 45 days before proposed scholar arrival.

7. Provide evidence to the Center for Global Engagement that the sponsoring department has addressed all arrangements on the International Scholar To-Do List which can be found here. Must occur no later than 21 days before proposed scholar arrival.
