Checking Your Updated Content
When updating in Ektron, you are updating on the "staging" server. Then every 1/2 hour it syncs with the production server which the world sees. To see updates immediately, you need to look at your pages on the staging server. If you "edit in context" you can see your updates as soon as you save. If you are editing in the full blown editor or from the work area, you need to open a browser and navigate to your page on the staging server.

How Do I See the Staging Server?

  • Open either Internet Explorer (IE) or Firefox.
  • Navigate to your page.
  • In the URL at the top, change the following:
    • http://www.northgeorgia.edu/pathToYourPage -> http://cms.northgeorgia.edu/pathToYourPage

The key here is changing "www" to "cms."

  • Server Name: Atlas
  • Path: www

  • Server Name: cms

Seeing Your Updates
Each time you update you need to refresh the page in each browser. Sometimes, the browser does not always reflect the update on refresh because it is caching the page.

What is Caching?
To reduce demand on the internet, most browsers "cache" or "save" the most recent pages you have accessed. This lowers internet traffic, giving quicker response time. So your browser will display the last version of the page you accessed. This is when you need to force the browser to pull a new copy of the page from the web by clearing the cache (memory).

How Do I Clear the Cache?

Each browser has their own way of clearing the cache. Here are the steps for the two most popular browsers, Internet Explorer and Firefox. The steps might be slightly different depending on the version of the browser.

Internet Explorer

Firefox

  1. In IE go to "Tools -> Internet Options."
  2. Find "Browsing History."
  3. Click the "Delete" button.
  4. Click "OK."
  5. At the end of the address bar is a little box with two arrows. Click that to refresh.
  1. In Firefox go to "Tools -> Clear Recent History."
  2. Uncheck all the boxes except "Cache."
  3. Click "OK."
  4. In the upper left corner is a blue arrow that circles clockwise. Click that to refresh.
