Graduate Assistants
Graduate assistants are hired at the department level, using a personal action notice and are considered to be employees of the University. The following financial requirements apply to grad assistants:
… “The regular graduate tuition rates normally shall be charged to all graduate students. However, where a graduate student is classified as a research, teaching, or graduate assistant, the institution may waive all or part of the graduate tuition and/or waive the differential between in-state and out-of-state graduate tuition. A registration fee of no less than $25 shall be charged to all students for whom a full waiver is provided (BoR Minutes, October 2006).” BOR Policy 7.3.1.4
In addition to the $25.00 charge, graduate assistants are required to pay the appropriate mandatory fees.
Graduate assistants are required to be covered by health insurance. Mandatory student health insurance is provided via a contract with United Health Care, through the BOR. Students may apply for a waiver on the UHC web-site during the open enrollment period at the beginning of each semester. Waivers will be applied to student accounts once the waiver is approved by UHC.
Mandatory coverage is divided into two payments:
