Teaching for the Next Generation

The Department of Teacher Education offers:

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree programs in Early Childhood/Special Education, Middle Grades Education (grades 4-8), and Secondary and P-12 teaching areas (includes secondary (grades 6-12) fields of English, History/Social Science, Mathematics and Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and P-12 fields of Art, Music, Languages (French & Spanish), and Physical Education).
Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees in all of the above fields except Physical Education, Music and Languages and the Masters of Science (M.S.) degree in Physical Education are also offered at the graduate level. At the Graduate level we also offer an Education Specialist degree (Ed.S.) in Teacher Leadership, and certification in Administration and Supervision.
Certification and master's degree programs available to individuals with bachelor’s degrees. The certification only programs for individuals with degrees in non-education fields are known as alternative certification programs . A Masters of Arts in Teaching degree is available in these fields as well.

All teacher education programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Artstream program benefits students, community

(April 29, 2012) - Art education students at North Georgia College & State University found they had developed a real bond with their students when it came time to end their service learning project at Avita Community Partners in Dahlonega earlier this spring.

'Education as a Human Right' conference highlights challenges for educators around the world

(April 26, 2012) Despite differences in language, culture, society and even curriculum, children around the world can face challenges that keep them from learning. To bring together diverse educators to talk about those common issues, Dr. Bob Michael, dean of the School of Education, and colleagues developed "Education as a Human Right: A Conversation."

Ceremony held to dedicate 1830s cabin, thank volunteers

(April 25, 2012) Students, faculty, staff and community members gathered on the campus of North Georgia College & State University recently for the dedication of a 180-year-old cabin moved here in February. Though the move was four years in the making, the real work of preserving and learning about the structure and its role in Appalachian culture is just beginning.
