First-Year Experience Program

A Unit of Student Affairs

Courses Offered

UNIV 1000 "Freshman Experience"

NGCSU encourages students to participate in UNIV 1000, a two-semester-credit course which helps students make a successful transition into college life by teaching them both academic and personal success skills, by introducing them to various resources at the university, and by providing mentoring opportunities with faculty and upper-class students. The course consists specifically of three components: academic skills; personal skills; and discussion, research, and critical thinking skills.

UNIV 2001 "Career Planning"

This two-semester-credit course will guide students through the career exploration and selection process and provide them the strategies necessary for informed career-related decision making. Students will participate in a variety of activities, including self-assessment, job search preparation, research into prospective majors and career fields, and forming a strategic plan for completing the career management process.

40% of all NGCSU First-Year Students lose HOPE after their first year.

Why would you want to be one of them? Take UNIV 1000 and learn the skills necessary to succeed in college where so many students fail.
