Gerontology
Earn a gerontology certificate (or Minor) as you work toward your Degree!
North Georgia offers an interdisciplinary Gerontology Certificate or Minor requiring 15 hours of coursework. Upon completion of the program, students opting for the certificate will receive it in addition to the major and minor. Degree seeking students will have the certificate noted on their transcripts. Graduate students and post-bachelor students seeking a certificate must enroll for all courses at the 5000 level. Post-Bachelor students must also apply for admission to North Georgia to complete the certificate program.
The following four courses are required and are fully online. If not enrolled at North Georgia you may enroll through GOML (Georgia on My Line).
- Survey of Aging (GERO 3081/5081) fall
- Biology of Aging (GERO 3381/5381) fall
- Psychology of Aging (PSYC 3181/5181) spring
- Sociology of Aging (SOCI 3481/5481) spring
Additionally, you must have a capstone experience. You will need to take one of the following classes to apply what you have learned after completing the foundation courses listed above. The practicum may be completed as a online course, allowing your placement to be almost anywhere. The research experience requires the approval of a faculty member to work with you on a project in their area of expertise.
