Study Abroad

Scholarships & Financial Aid North Georgia students can use their federal and state financial aid, including the HOPE scholarship, for study abroad. We encourage all of our students to set-up an appointment with the Financial Aid Office to discuss their financial needs. There are also several other sources to fund your study abroad experience. The key is to plan ahead and research all the different study abroad scholarships available.

North Georgia Study Abroad Scholarships

Hope Scholarship

Students attending at North Georgia program will be able to apply for the HOPE scholarship towards the tuition portion of the program cost. In order to do this the students needs to set-up an appointment with the North Georgia Financial Aid Office and complete the appropriate forms.

STARS Scholarship

The STARS program is one of the best ways to get money for your study abroad program. Awards are disbursed as $500 and the student will work 48 hours. This is a stress free program were you can pick your own work hours. You will get your money in bi-weekly checks, because it is paid by the hour. To qualify, you have to be accepted into a university sponsored Study Abroad Program. Positions are given on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure to apply to your program today! Other Study Abroad Scholarships

 Gilman Scholarship

For students who are Federal Pell Grant recipients only. The Gilman program awards scholarships of up to $5,000 for students participating in a study abroad program with a duration of at least 28 days in one country. There is also an extra $3,000 award for students who are studying critical languages. Students going on Summer programs do not qualify.

 Phi Kappa Phi

An honor society that is sponsoring a Study Abroad Grant competition. The program is designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. This grant is offered to students with a GPA of 3.75 or higher, and participating in a study abroad program.  For additional information please visit the program website.

 Boren Scholarships

Boren Scholarships provide American undergraduate students with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation, in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal government. Canada and Western Europe programs are excluded. The maximum amounts for scholarships awarded are $10,000 for a semester and $20,000 for a full academic year. The deadline for this scholarship program is February 1st.

 Boren Fellowships

Boren Fellowships provide American graduate students, both at the master's and the doctoral level, with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation, in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal government.

 The Language Flagship Fellowship

The Language Flagship offers a limited number of fellowships to qualified American students interested in receiving full financial support to participate in one of the Flagship Programs in Arabic, Central Asian Turkic languages, Korean, Mandarin, Persian, and Russian.

 Critical Language Scholarship

This program offers scholarships for intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen critical need foreign languages for summer 2011. The CLS Program provides seven to ten week group-based intensive language instruction and extensive cultural enrichment experiences held overseas at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. students. All program costs are covered for participants.

 Annette Kade Scholarship

Students wishing to pursue study at one of the Austrian, French, German or Swiss ISEP member institutions during the semester or the academic year. This scholarship is to encourage students with a genuine interest in study abroad to apply for a placement in Austria, France, Germany or Switzerland. The award criteria for the scholarships include academic background, desire to improve language ability, and genuine financial need.

 STA Travel Scholarship

Two $500 scholarships from STA Travel are available each academic year to ISEP students whose home university is located in the USA for roundtrip travel from the United States to their program destination.

 DAAD Scholarship

This program provides scholarships to attend a broad range of three- to four-week summer courses at German universities which focus mainly on literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany. Extensive extracurricular programs complement and reinforce the core material.

Scholarships are available for courses lasting a minimum of three weeks. The scholarship is approximately €850, which covers tuition, room and board in whole or in part. Accommodations are arranged by the host institution. In addition, DAAD will provide an international travel subsidy of €300-450.

**Must be a part of a sanctioned DAAD study abroad program to be eligible

 FEA Scholarship 

The FEA is committed to increasing the opportunities for students to participate in education abroad programs through the provision of grants and scholarships.  Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need , study in a non-traditional  destination, and study the language of the host country (other than English).


Study Abroad Scholarships for Cadets

Funding is available for both contracted and non-contracted cadets. Scholarships change from year to year; more information on this year's scholarships can be found on the Cadet Information page.
