Montgomery GI Bill - Active duty - Chapter 30
The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, at North Georgia College and State University. The Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) is non-transferable and eligible participants have payed towards receiving this benefit while on Active Duty. Chapter 30 pays a monthly stipend directly to the student. Rates for the GI Bill are updated yearly and can be found on the VA website. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following your release from active duty.
Chapter 30 pays a fixed monthly payment directly to the student while they are attending classes. This payment is dependent on the students enrollment status. Rates are updated yearly and can be found here.
You will need:
- Veterans DD214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty)
- A copy of any Kicker, or Buy-up. (if applicable)
- Log on/Register at the VA's ebenefits website (VONAPP).
- Complete the Application for VA Education Benefits (VA form 22-1990). or,
- Complete the Paper Form.
- Print a copy of the form.
After the VA has processed your application they will mail you a Certificate of Eligibility. The Veterans Success Center will need a copy of this letter.
Post Application Procedure:
After you, the student, have applied for the GI Bill you will be sent a letter of eligibility from the VA that states: “You must take this letter to your school. Your School must certify your enrollment before you can get paid.” You will need to send a copy of that letter to this office (keep the original for your own records). After you have enrolled in your courses you will need to complete a Veterans Enrollment Certificate (VEC) and submit it to our office.
Each Semester you, the student, will need to complete a Veterans Enrollment Certificate (VEC) after you enroll in classes each semester. Completion of this form ques the Veterans Success Center to certify your hours to the VA.
You, the student, will need to complete the VA WAVE Verification before your payment is released at the end of the month. You have two options to verify your attendance:
