What is Appalachia? Who is Appalachia? Where is Appalachia?

The answers may surprise you. The Georgia Appalachian Studies Center is designated by the state's General Assembly to serve as the state's official center for the study of Appalachia. Located at the historic Vickery House, the Center is part of NGCSU's School of Education.  

MISSION

Our mission is to educate students and the community about southern Appalachian culture through art, history, music, and nature.

VISION

Our vision is to be an active and vibrant learning environment, providing innovative opportunities for scholarship and service.

    To preserve and share Appalachian culture

    To provide a significant academic presence

    To serve the Appalachian region as a credible, visible and viable resource
