Budgeting & Paperwork

Budgeting

Students should be prepped on the concept of budgeting before traveling overseas. Exchange rates are constantly changing and having enough money to last the duration of the trip is quite important. When visiting a new country, it can be very tempting to spend money immediately. You want to discuss a budget with your student, especially if you are providing some of their funds to them. You can also help your student ensure they will have access to funds once they arrive at their destination. Since they will probably not want to carry a lot of cash with them, students will need to have bank accounts set up and ensure that money can be easily transferred to the account from home

Paperwork

Your student will be required to fill out and submit an application packet. This includes an application form, health information form, disciplinary action form, release form and a form describing what classes will be covered during the trip. A copy of the application packet can be found here.

All forms must be turned into the Center for Global Engagement located in 218 Price Memorial Hall.

Passports and visas must be obtained preferably two months prior to the trip. For more information on applying please visit:
Passports: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738_2.html Visas: http://www.embassy.org/

If airplane tickets are not included as part of the fees your student must pay, you should help them ensure they have all ticket arrangements made before the day of departure. Your student will also be responsible for acquiring their ticket for their return home.
